I build frontends - and the AI workflows that ship them.

Frontend engineer with more than ten years in production codebases, now focused on agentic and AI functionality. I help teams ship AI features that actually hold up - and architect frontends and development workflows built to grow, for the users and for the team alike.

01 - What I do

Consulting built around how teams really ship

I work with teams who want to move faster without compromising on quality. AI helps a lot with that - but only when it's brought into the product and the workflows thoughtfully. That's how the codebase stays healthy while the project grows.

Agentic & AI engineering

Introduce agentic workflows and AI features that hold up in production - not just in demos. From the first genuinely useful agent to the harness that keeps it reliable.

Frontend architecture

Greenfield setups built for structured growth, and scalable architecture for teams that have outgrown their first version. Foundations you won't have to rip out in a month or two - or in a year or two - however fast you grow.

Code quality & process

Lift code quality and developer workflow in brownfield codebases: automated and AI-augmented testing, a cleaner codebase structure, partly automated code review, and a release process you can stop worrying about - practices that compound instead of decaying. A brownfield codebase doesn't have to mean a Friday deploy freeze for fear of what might break over the weekend.

Legacy modernisation

AngularJS → Angular migration, the hybrid way - ship features on the latest Angular while you modernise, with no hard cut-over from the existing product, then split off cleanly into a modern repo. I've taken a migration like this all the way to the finish line, on a codebase of several hundred thousand lines - and it wasn't my only one.

Personal projects I've designed and built

Flagship2025 - Present

eSIMPLEE

A fully fledged invoicing SaaS for self-employed people in Slovenia: issue invoices and credit notes, send them by email with open tracking, cancel them when needed, keep a customer base, and follow everything in analytics. Alongside it sits the tax-report module - upload invoices, pick a few options, and the system extracts the data and generates the tax report for the period. Use either on its own or both together. Built from scratch - including AI features in one of the least forgiving domains there is: tax legislation.

Skeletonizer

2024 - Present

A lightweight open-source package for creating skeleton-loading views, with adapters for both Angular and Vue. Highly customisable - give it a skeleton config and it keeps your loading states in sync with the real component, no matter how the design changes.

Flyavel

2017 - 2021

A travel search engine that found the cheapest combination of flights and accommodation for your requirements - faster than anything else I'd used at the time - and let you book flights directly within the product. Built end to end from zero as a way to learn Ruby on Rails (plus CoffeeScript and the whole infra stack: certs, AWS, Heroku at the time, the DB). Born from spending far too long hunting for travel deals myself.

Ten years across product teams

  1. Principal Frontend Engineer

    Jun 2025 - Present

    Turtl

Developing and rolling out AI features and agentic processes across the product and engineering org - from raising engineering standards to shipping new features while prototyping new ways of building with AI.

  2. Founder & Consultant

    Oct 2017 - Present

    Luka Varga s.p. · Ljubljana

Independent consulting and product work - shipping eSIMPLEE and maintaining the open-source Skeletonizer package.

  3. Senior Frontend Developer

    Apr 2019 - Apr 2025

    PSP Media · Remote

Six years on a large platform for one of the biggest sports federations in the US. Led a hybrid AngularJS → Angular migration - shipping new features while rewriting legacy code into pure Angular and carving it out into a fresh NX-based repo. Along the way, helped raise coding standards and improve processes and developer workflow across the team, and built a graphical training-planning tool in Vue.js.

  4. Full Stack Developer

    Sep 2018 - Apr 2019

    Verity (formerly Eventum) · Ljubljana

Built crypto dApps - the kind of inherently complex, edge-case-heavy work that decentralised crypto-based systems demand.

  5. Full Stack Developer

    Jul 2017 - Sep 2018

    1tap apps · Ljubljana

A fintech startup - part of the team building the backend behind the mobile and web apps, plus the web app's frontend.

  6. Web Developer

    Ineor d.o.o. · Ljubljana

  7. Web Developer

    Jul 2015 - Oct 2016

    SRC · Ljubljana

Helped redesign and launch eUprava - Slovenia's national e-government portal, and a genuinely complex one. Frontend build pipelines that were modern for the time, cross-browser compatibility, and WCAG-compliant, responsive interfaces. Where it all started.

05 - About

A bit about me

I'm Luka - a software developer based in Ljubljana. I've been building for the web since 2015 and hold an MSc in Graphic Engineering, which is probably why I care as much about how something is made as how it looks.

These days I'm happiest designing AI and agentic functionality that makes real products genuinely better - and I love the work itself: clean architecture, healthy codebases, and shipping things - and processes - that last. Away from the keyboard, I like to spend time with my wife and kid, snowboard, travel, enjoy an open road or an empty race or go-kart track, or lose myself in music - in my headphones, at a concert, or with a guitar in hand.

Let's work together

Have a product that needs AI done properly, a codebase that needs a steady hand, or development processes that could work better? I currently have about four hours a week available - happy to jump on a short intro call.
